The Bookmakers Micropub - Heysham

On 29th January 2019, the Bookmakers micropub opened its doors to the public.

Born from a passing comment made while having a drink at the Little Bare micropub on Princes Crescent back in 2017, the Bookmakers Micropub was created with the intention of bringing something new and different to the village of Heysham.

The Bookmakers Micropub offers a range of beers, ciders, and wines, as well as a selection of snacks. With no television, music or mobile phones permitted at The Bookmakers, the aim is to provide a relaxed and welcoming environment for people to enjoy a drink and a chat. So far, the feedback has been positive and the micropub has become a popular spot for locals and visitors alike.

A warm welcome...

Formerly a bookmakers shop (hence the name – surprise, suprise). The bookmakers micropub is a simple and elegant establishment, located in Heysham. We pride ourselves on providing a warm and inviting atmosphere, where locals can come to relax and enjoy a pint or two. Our focus is on quality beer, and we offer 5 rotating casks, 2 rotating kegs, along with a locally brewed Pilsner and house pale ale from Little Creatures. We’re also a community orientated pub, where everyone talks to each other and a stranger soon becomes a friend. So, if you’re ever in the area, be sure to pop in and say hello!

Cask Marque Accrediation

Cask Marque is an organisation which addresses the void in beer quality control caused by 1990s orders where breweries had to sell their pubs or vice versa, resulting often only in interested parties handling it and not necessarily taking care of what happened on site. We’re proud that The Bookmakers Micropub Heysham passed all criteria necessary for the Cask Marque accreditation, as below!

To assess the beer quality in pubs and ensure standards are driven and maintained, our team of assessors visit the pubs in our scheme at least twice a year.

During the unannounced visit, the assessor checks all the cask ales on sale for temperature, taste, appearance and aroma.

All the beers must reach the required standard for the pub to pass and it then receives a plaque, framed certificate and merchandising material to inform its customers of the award and their rights.

The pub then appears on the CaskFinder app for those on the ‘World’s Biggest Ale Trail’ to visit.
